We all seek guidance, strength, and inspiration in our lives whether we're facing challenges, making decisions, or simply trying to be better every day. And sometimes we look for some of the best Scriptures that we can talk about in any meeting. The Book of Mormon, in particular, is full of powerful teachings that resonate with us no matter where we are on our spiritual journey.
In this article, I have chosen five verses that have stood out to me for their ability to inspire, comfort, and challenge us to grow.
1. Mosiah 2:17
“Service is the Path to Godliness”
"And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
We’ve all heard it before—helping others is important. But King Benjamin takes it a step further by reminding us that when we serve others, we’re actually serving God Himself. Think about that for a second. Every small act of kindness you do isn't just making someone's day better—it's an act of worship. It’s a powerful way to connect with the divine.
2. Alma 37:6-7
“Small Acts, Great Consequences”
"Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass, and small means in many instances doth confound the wise."
We often think that only big gestures or grand acts make a difference, but this verse flips that idea on its head. Alma teaches us that the small things—like a daily prayer or a kind word—can have huge impacts over time. It’s comforting to know that the little things we do can really add up and even confound the “wise” of the world.
3. 2 Nephi 31:20
“Press Forward with Hope”
"Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life."
Life isn’t always easy, and sometimes the road of faith can feel long and hard. But this verse is all about keeping that hope alive. Nephi tells us to keep going, no matter what, holding tight to our faith in Christ. It’s a reminder that if we stay the course—if we keep loving God and others, and keep hope alive—we’ll make it through and be rewarded with eternal life.
4. Ether 12:27
“Strength in Humility”
"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble, and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them."
No one likes to admit their weaknesses, but this verse tells us it’s okay—it’s actually a good thing. When we’re humble enough to recognize where we fall short, we open ourselves up to God’s help. And the amazing thing is, when we do that, God steps in and turns those weaknesses into strengths. It’s a beautiful promise that shows just how powerful humility and faith can be.
5. 3 Nephi 12:14
“Be the Light”
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, I give unto you to be the light of this people. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid."
This is one of those verses that really hit home. Jesus is calling us to be examples, to let our lives shine like a beacon. It’s not always easy, but when we live our faith out loud—when we show kindness, love, and integrity—we become that light for others. We can help guide them to something better by being who we are meant to be.
